Microsoft recently released Power Pages, an evolution of Power Apps Portals, and established a new licensing approach that offers greater flexibility. In this blog, we aim to explain the Power Pages licensing and your top questions around this.

I still have Power Apps Portal licenses. How will these transition to Power Pages licenses?

One of the most common questions we have encountered is “What happens to our current Power Apps Portals licenses?” Understandably, with a new product replacing a current solution, there are always concerns about the transition of current licenses and any cost increases that may be incurred because of this.

Until the 31st of March 2023, customers can continue renewing agreements using Power Apps Portal licences, or transition to Power Pages licensing; these can be used to open your pages in Microsoft Power Pages.

From 1st April 2023, customers will no longer be able to renew Power Apps Portals licenses. The Power Pages license model will apply upon the expiry of a Power Apps Portals agreement term.

What are the types of Power Pages licenses and how much do these cost?

Compared to Power Apps portals, Microsoft’s latest licensing model for Power Pages includes important changes to make this a more cost-effective option for businesses.

Power Pages licenses are split into two types – subscription plans and pay-as-you-go – that are then further broken down into anonymous and authenticated users

It is also worth noting that a base license is not required for Power Pages. Where Power Apps Portals required either a Dynamics 365 or Power Apps plan to be purchased as a base license, Power Pages licenses are available on a standalone basis.

Pay-as-you-go

  • Use an Azure subscription to pay for only the number of users who authenticate on a website each calendar month
  • Gives access to authentication providers

What are the Power Pages usage rights?

Authenticated users licensed with Power Apps or Dynamics 365 receive usage rights for Power Pages on the following basis.

  • Dynamics 365 enterprise apps – unlimited Power Pages websites mapped to the same Dynamics 365 environment
  • Power Apps per app plan – one Power Pages website
  • Power Apps per user plan – unlimited Power Pages website

Users with Power Apps per-user license or a D365 enterprise license are not counted by the authentication meter.
